Margaret Macdonald, wife of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, was commissioned by the Blackie family in 1908 to create the incredible gesso panel within The Hill House. Margaret's inspiration came from the charming fairy tale Sleeping Beauty, which fitted perfectly with the Blackies, as the family publishing business printed many children's books.
